The factory, located at Soi Prompong on the bank
of Saen Sap Canal in Bangkok, was a small factory using an outdated production process
without mills, except vacuum pans, centrifugals and antiquated steam boilers using
fuel oil as fuel. Syrup, palmyra palm sugar and brown sugar were used as raw materials,
which were remelt and went through a sulfitation process. After that, the syrup
was boiled in a vacuum pan until sugar crystals were formed, and the crystals were
separated in centrifugals. This was an outdated process, and the cost of production
was high. Less than 100 bags of sugar could be produced per day. This was the third
sugar factory operated by the private sector. The first private-sector sugar factory
was owned by Phraya Mahai Sawan, but it is no longer in operation now.
In the following year (1947), Mr. Suree and his associates set up another factory
in Thonburi Province (now part of Bangkok Metropolis) called Hiep Hua Sugar Factory.
In 1953, he succeeded in inventing the first set of locally made mills which were
similar to imported models. Mr. Suree cast the mills and equipment and parts by
himself. He also designed pullers for powering the milling house by using a 500-horse-power
steam locomotive. In 1954, the Factory was relocated to Sri Racha District, Cholburi
Province, and its name was changed to Sri Racha Sugar Factory. It had a crushing
capacity of only 800 tons per day. As the factory required a large investment for
the installation of a boiler, a furnace and a generator and its crushing efficiency
at the beginning was not good enough as it could produce only 50-60 kgs of sugar
per one ton cane, its costs of production could not be reduced sufficiently compared
with the production of sugar from brown sugar and syrup.
However, it was the belief of the management that the production of sugar
from cane crushing should give better results than the production of sugar from
brown sugar and syrup. They used their experience in operating sugar factories to
conduct experiments, and endeavored to invent, modify and make improvements to machinery
and equipment for sugar production to achieve higher production efficiency. Most
of the equipment and parts 2 are produced locally, and only those which cannot be
made locally are imported. Following is a chronology of the developments of TRR
